Corbyn’s election as leader of the Labour party was rightfully cheered by all those who want to see a better world. His victory was a welcome tonic to the low level of strikes in this country. Socialists now have to get behind Corbyn in the run up to the election on 8 June and redouble our campaigning in the streets towards a Labour victory. The council elections were a warning of what could happen if we do not.
However, can we really win a fundamental change in society through Parliament? Who holds real power – our elected MPs or the bosses and the media? How can we bring about Socialism and what part can parliament play in all this? What has happened in the past when left-wing leaders have been elected in other countries?
We will be discussing the answer to these questions and more in this weeks Leicester SWP meeting on Wednesday 10 May, 7pm at the LGBT Centre, Wellington Street, Leicester.
