“We are committed to fight for peace, equality, justice and socialism in Leicester. Join us”
Yesterday, students from Leicester universities and colleges demonstrated for free education. The march from Victoria Park to the Clock Tower was lively and determined.
Councillor Wayne Naylor from the Trade Union and Socialist Coalition was there to show his support as were members of Leicester Trades Council, Unite and the NUT.
Demonstrators chanted ‘Education for the masses not just for the ruling classes’, and spoke to us about the need to challenge racism and emulate the success of parties like Syriza in Greece.
Organiser Tom Barker stated that we can see the re-emergence of political conciousness on campuses throughout the country.
We need to re-politicise our campuses and rebuild the student movement that in 2010 was at the forefront of fighting back against austerity.
